What to Pack for Umrah: Complete Checklist for UK Travellers

Pack light, pack twice as many essentials as you think you need, and keep everything critical in hand luggage. This checklist is built from what returning pilgrims tell us they forgot.

Documents and hand luggage

Keep these on your person, not in the hold.

  • Passport, visa confirmation and vaccination certificate
  • Printed hotel and flight itinerary in case your phone dies
  • All prescription medication in original packaging with a copy of the prescription
  • Unscented toiletries for after you enter Ihram
  • Power bank and a UK to Saudi plug adapter (type G is common in hotels)

Clothing

Two sets of Ihram for men, comfortable loose abayas and scarves for women, and more socks than you expect — marble floors are hot in the day and cold at night. A light jacket is genuinely useful between November and February.

Comfort items that make a difference

Slip-on sandals you can carry in a drawstring bag, a small unscented soap for wudu, refillable water bottle, blister plasters, and a foldable prayer mat for busy areas outside the Haram.

What not to pack

Scented soaps, perfumes and creams for the Ihram period, anything over the airline's liquid limits, and large gifts on the outbound leg — leave the space for Zamzam and dates on the way home.
